Will the West End's Ghost Musical Haunt Broadway in Spring 2012?

Ghost, the musical adaptation of the 1990 Oscar-nominated film, may head to Broadway in the spring of 2012, according to the New York Post. The show recently opened on July 19 at the West End's Piccadilly Theatre. The producers are reportedly looking for a star to play the role of murdered lover Sam, while Sharon D. Clarke, who plays psychic Oda Mae Brown, is expected to transfer with the production.<

"[Ghost producers] met quietly with New York theater owners and, sources say, will try to get the show here in April, just before the Tony Awards cutoff," according to the Post.

Based on the 1990 film starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg, Ghost follows a young couple, Sam and Molly, who get mugged while walking home to their New York apartment one night. Sam is murdered and becomes trapped in this world as a ghost, unable to leave Molly, who he learns is in grave danger. With the help of a phony storefront psychic, Oda Mae Brown, Sam tries to communicate with Molly in the hope of saving and protecting her.

The West End production, which began performances June 22, is directed by Tony winner Matthew Warchus and stars Richard Fleeshman as Sam, Caissie Levy as Molly, Clark as Oda Mae Brown and Andrew Langree as Carl. The show features music and lyrics by Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard and a book by the film's original screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin.
